Personal trainingpat and theo

If you have never tried Pilates before then this is the first step on your journey. Before joining a fundamental matwork class you should take at least one personal training session to get to know the basic techniques of deep muscle control and focused breathing which are the basis of the method.

You may choose to continue with personal training classes, where the one to one teaching will help you to progress quickly and the exercise programme will be tailored specifically to you. You will then be taught how to use the traditional apparatus, the ‘Reformer’ and ‘Cadillac, and more contemporary equipment such as Swiss Ball and stability rollers. For advanced students too, personal training is the best way to focus and improve your practise.

A Personal Training session lasts for 55 minutes and is £44, 5 prebooked classes are £210 or £400 for 10 prebooked classes.

Group Matwork Pilates classes

Group classes are always popular and York Pilates Space has a reputation for excellence in our matwork sessions. With a maximum of nine per class, students are guided through the techniques of the method with care and attention to detail.

Good technique is always valued more than stressing the body with poorly executed positioning.

Beginners recieve a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of Pilates, so that the strength and flexibility which pilates brings can be achieved safely and effectively.

Intermediate students are taught to develop more demanding movements at a pace suited to the individual.

Matwork classes run termly, but newcomers may join a class at any time, after an initial introductory personal training session.

£74 per eight week term of one class per week. Want to come twice a week? Check for availability first, it’s £138.75 for an eight week term of 2 mat classes per week. Alternatively you could mix up your matwork with an occasional personal training class or an equipment class too.

Equipment classesreformer

On Wednesday and Friday the afternoons and early evenings are dedicated to Equipment classes. These hour long sessions are available for people with some experience in the Pilates method who have completed about six months tuition in group matwork classes or for students who have been working on a one – to -one basis. You will be coached by Patricia on the Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel and Wunda Chair, sharing your session with 2 or 3 other Pilates students.

At York Pilates Space we believe, just like Joseph Pilates, in attention to detail and appropriate exercise for each individual. You will be coached at a level of challenge that’s right for you whether you are getting your body back after having a baby or training for a triathalon! Book a regular weekly session or just the occasional hour now and again to complement your matwork session or home programme.

The machines help you to get that extra edge into your Pilates experience. They give you physical support when you are trying to improve on a difficult movement and can provide some extra resistance which develops deep muscle strength. You will feel fantastic from the inside out after your session!

£22 per hour, 3 classes £63, 5 classes £100. You may book your equipment classes to suit yourself and make up your own timetable. You are welcome to come 10 minutes before your session time and warm up in the mat studio.

Pilates Classes for Pregnancy

Patricia is a member of The Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Instructors. There are no pre natal classes at present, personal training classes are recommended for mums to be. 5 x 55 minute classes are £210, 10 classes are £400, arranged to around your own busy schedule.

Remedial Pilates.

If you have been referred to Pilates classes by your doctor or physiotherapist because you have a back condition, you are advised to take personal training classes. A group  class is not initially recommended for those with diagnosed back pathologies. Pilates is recommended for rehabilitation of hip and knee replacements, shoulder and neck injuries. In your one to one classes your instructor will take thorough case notes and assess your posture, stance and movement before teaching you the basics of the method and gradually developing a programme of exercises for you to follow. The machine work is especially good for rehabilitation and allows you to progress at precisely your pace and ability. You will start to feel the benefits after a couple of sessions but you are advised to plan for 10 classes to really feel the results.

55 minute session £44, 5 sessions £210, 10 sessions £400
